DAY 9 of '24 DAYS OF GIVING' - Waste Not: Ethically Made Activewear by Girlfriend Collective

By Ariel Colhoun Passionate about increasing the sphere of influence for women & driving positive change.

According to Oceana, "The oceans face a massive and growing threat from something you encounter everyday: plastics. An estimated 17.6 billion pounds of plastic leaks into the marine environment from land-based sources every year - this is roughly equivalent to dumping a garbage truck full of plastic into the oceans every minute."

What Have We Done?

Sometimes I feel like we treat our world as if it were ‘dead’. We have numbed our feelings towards what is actually ‘alive’ on this planet and we treat it like it is in fact dead, lifeless, and numb – all in pursuit of dollar signs. We cut down our living trees to make dead paper. We light fires to our forests and grasslands to make more room for things we think we need, while millions of plants, animals, and species die in the midst of our insatiable materialistic consumption. We dig minerals out of the ground to refine them or make them into the materials we need. We continue to overfish, pollute our oceans with plastics, chemicals and remains from our unwanted waste, and have outright disregard for our oceans, yet we stand by and watch not only the marine life and animals die, but our oceans as well. We have created so much pollution our skies are literally choking, while Mother Nature works harder and harder to cleanse her lungs. And all the while inside, our planet is slowly dying. Unless we all start to make an effort to 'heal' our planet, we will soon find ourselves at a point of no return ... that is why we love hearing about companies doing their part to make a difference.
