In today’s day an age, women’s appearance is constantly under a microscope. Due to countless social media accounts with the help of filters that adjust the imperfections of the now perfect models, it is next to impossible for the average woman not to feel insecure about some part of her appearance.

As I sit here, writing this article, hoping to make everyone reading this feel more confident, I glance at my own stomach and suck it in. Being conscious of our bodies and it’s imperfections is a good thing as long as it does not affect our confidence when we face the mirror. Beauty is subjective and is only skin deep. Be confident in all that you are!

To feel even better in our skin or clothes, the stylists offer advise on how to accentuate one’s assets and avoid drawing the eye to the imperfections. There are many body types out there but somehow it has been narrowed down to the main four:

APPLE SHAPE

  • Well-proportioned

  • Wider shoulders than your hips

  • Not a defined waste line

Recommended:

  • A-line & flowy tops

  • Single button jackets that can be worn open

  • Strapless dresses & maxi with a pronounced neckline

  • Skinny jeans or leggings

PEAR SHAPE

  • Waist is wider than the chest

  • Hips are wider than your shoulders

  • Fuller rear

Recommended:

  • Fitted, patterned tops

  • A-line & cropped jackets with big lapels or wide collars

  • A-line skirts & dresses just below the knee

  • Dark (subtle) bootcut or flared bottoms

HOURGLASS SHAPE

  • Curvy

  • Well defined waist

  • Measurements of your waist & hips are close to the same

Recommended:

  • Fitted tops with lower neck line

  • Cropped & fitted jackets

  • Fitted dresses, wrap or flared in any length

  • Fitted bottoms & skinny belt to emphasize the waist

RECTANGLE SHAPE

  • Not curvy

  • Measurements of your waist & hips are close to the same

  • Straight waist & not particularly defined

Recommended:

  • Strapless, racerback & halter tops

  • Flowy or fitted coats & dresses in any length

  • Pants should be opposite from tops (example: if a flowy top is worn then a fitted bottom)
