Hair Care Tips For The Chilly Seasons

We’ve talked a lot about transitioning our skincare over as the weather changes, but we often forget another key aspect of ourselves in the windy, humid, cold weather…. our hair!

The cooler temperatures dry out hair, often to the point of breakage which leaves us with split ends. This can result in dull, lifeless looking hair. And to be honest, it gets a little bit hard to manage when it’s unhealthy.

Here are some tips and tricks to keep your hair looking healthy this autumn and winter:

1. Wear a hat

I know we’ve all heard this one before, and our first thought is always “but I don’t want hat hair!”. Using a hat protects your hair from the wind, cold, wet weather which does the most damage. Pro Tip: wrap your hair in a silk scarf before putting your hat on to avoid “hat hair”. 2. Deeply condition your hair at least once a week Deeply conditioning your hair once a week will nourish your hair and scalp.

Bonus: you can use ingredients you already have to make your own hair conditioning mask!

Avocado Dreamin Hair Mask Recipe Ingredients:

- 1/2 avocado - peppermint essential oil (or whichever one you prefer)

  • Mash avocado until smooth, no lumps whatsoever.

  • Add 2-5 drops of desired essential oil.

  • Mix until combined and spread evenly over clean hair.

  • Let sit for 15 minutes and then rinse.

Coconut Craze Moisture Mask Literally the simplest way to get moisture into your hair and scalp is to coat your hair with coconut oil and leave on for 30 minutes to a few hours. You can leave it on overnight for the deepest condition, but be sure to put a towel over your pillow so it doesn’t get dirty! 3. Do not wash your hair every day Washing your hair every day strips it of all its naturally produced oils that actually help protect your hair. Try to leave at least 1-2 days in between washing your hair. Note: this does not mean don’t shower for 1-2 days, that's up to you! 4. Regular trims keep hair healthy Regular hair trims keep hair thick, luscious and healthy while eliminating split ends. This is crucial in the colder weather. 5. Invest in a humidifier Humidifiers pull the moisture out of the air so it keeps your hair from getting dull and frizzy. Try those tips this season and see the difference it will make in your hair!
