Malpractice Allegations Statistics Against Plastic Surgeons

Caveat Emptor

When it comes to any major purchase you make over the span of your lifetime, the common phrase "buyer beware", or "caveat emptor" in Latin, will always remain applicable. And with the language of Latin dating back to as far back as 75 BC or more, one would tend to believe that the "caveat emptor" phrase was created for a reason.

The phrase "caveat emptor" is actually part of a longer statement:

"Caveat emptor, quia ignorare non debuit quod jus alienum emit."

when translated to English means:

"Let a purchaser beware, for he ought not to be ignorant of the nature of the property which he is buying from another party."

We are all human. We all have our strong points and strengths, and we all have our faults and weaknesses. This is where this phrase becomes most important when it relates to especially large or significant purchases - whether it be buying a house, car, vacation, or even plastic surgery. When it comes to making major decisions - do your research. As a buyer, you too must take on the responsibility of thoroughly researching and understanding everything relating to your purchase, and if something doesn't feel quite 'right', don't do it. Plain and simple.

Malpractice Statistics & Plastic Surgeons

When it comes to making the personal decision to elect for plastic surgery, we cannot emphasize enough - do your research. Many factors come into play when choosing a plastic surgeon, and understanding former patient satisfaction from a plastic surgeon is at the top. When it comes to plastic surgeon reviews, most reviews you will find on the internet are the 'good ones'. Anything that does not meet some plastic surgeons' standards, or if they feel the review is misrepresented, if there are legal issues, etc. it will be removed. So access to this data can unfortunately be limited.

In regards to malpractice allegations against plastic surgeons worldwide, you will find this data hard to get a hold of unless it is brought to the forefront, unfortunately, through the public media, social media, news, etc. Much to our surprise, organizations such as the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) as of August 2019, do not maintain malpractice statistics regarding certified plastic surgeons.

We understand the sensitivity for parties on both sides of the coin when it comes to medical malpractice, and the concept of "innocent until proven guilty". So when it comes to making decisions about your own personal health, always remember ...

"Buyer beware".
