Say 'Yes' If The Shoe Fits

By Ariel Colhoun Passionate about increasing the sphere of influence for women & driving positive change.

When making life choices, it’s much like trying on a pair of shoes; you have to try on several pairs in order to find the right fit. It really is imperative to find the right fit, for if your shoes are too tight you will end up in a great deal of pain and potentially cripple your toes. On the other hand, if your shoes are too big, they will never fit you – unless of course, you are still growing. Both situations will make you look and feel awkward, and you may never end up feeling comfortable. Shoes can only be truly functional if they fit both your feet and the situation or circumstance they are used in – unless of course, you choose to go barefoot.

Try looking at all the styles of shoes you have ever purchased and line them all up in front of you. Do they provide you with a quick representation of your personality and who you are? The style of your shoe collection can often be a reflection of you, representing your life choices and the many different sides of your soul from badass to high class, from sporty to laid back, or from conventional to unconventional. You will also find your shoe choice highly depends on the particular occasion or event. Moreover, you may end up walking many miles in just one pair of those shoes over the life of your shoes. When you actually look at all the different styles of your shoes, it really does give you a sense of who you really are on the inside and out.

Many debates have also been had regarding what your shoe style says about your personality and your life choices. And yes, people will judge you by your shoes and your choices – so when you say yes to an opportunity, make sure it is the right fit for you. Choosing a pair of shoes to wear is just like choosing when to say yes to an opportunity. Saying yes needs to feel good in your heart, in your head, and be aligned with your authentic self. Learning to say yes more often to things that fit just right for you will help you in the long run.
