Spring Skincare

Well, we did it! We made it through the longest, most grueling winter to hit us in many years. We can slowly start to put away our winter coats and boots, in favour of a lighter jacket and some flats. We can defrost our bodies and start soaking in the sunlight. Something else that we need to consider doing is changing our skincare routine. For the winter, we focused on creams and oils to deeply hydrate our skin. Now that it is spring, we need to work on exfoliating (to get rid of the dead skin cells that have built up) as well as applying (and re-applying) SPF daily.

Start Scrubbing.

The cold winds, erratic snowfalls, and overall dreariness of winter have lead to a thick build-up of dead skin cells. These cells are clogging our pores, preventing product from deeply penetrating our skin. This is where exfoliating comes in! Exfoliating products can come in many forms. Our two favourites are small micro granules that gently slough off dead skin cells, as well as enzymatic peels that dissolve the dead skin. Both of these forms of exfoliation clear the way for a product to reach deeper levels of skin. Try Éminence’s Strawberry Dermafoliant, Stone Crop Fizzofoliant, or Fitglow Beauty’s Age Clear Serum Pads.

What the SPF.

Oh SPF. Often neglected, yet hugely important. The sun is the #1 cause of pre-mature aging and damaging skin so it is imperative that we add this step to our morning skincare routine. As we welcome spring, we welcome the sun, and although it feels wonderful to have warmth hit our skin again, we need to remember to protect ourselves. Apply SPF last as part of your morning routine, and re-apply during the day as necessary and depending on how much time you spend outside.

There are so many easy ways to incorporate products with SPF, from Coola’s BB cream or matte face lotion, to Éminence’s Tropical Vanilla, or Red Currant Moisturizer.

Ditch the heavy creams.

Now that winter is over, there is no need for the heaviness of the thick creams. Instead, opt for something lighter yet equally as nourishing such as Fitglow Beauty’s Cloud Comfort Cream, or Éminence’s Arctic Berry Peptide Radiance Cream.

These are just a few steps that you can take to ensure a smooth transition from Winter to Spring skincare.
