Staying Calm Amid The Storm

Guiding you towards peace while empowering you to discover your inner strength.

With all the uncertainty and fear surrounding us, it can become increasingly difficult to stay calm. However, mindfulness teaches us that you cannot control external situations but you do have control over how you react to them. You get to choose how you show up for yourself and others.

Here are a few ways to keep your energy present and remain calm during these times.

Breathe

Deep breathing tells your mind and body that you are safe, in turn allowing you to relax more fully. When you notice you’re holding on to tension, shift your focus to your breath. Inhale for 4 counts and exhale for 4 counts. Stay with your breath until you begin to relax.

Meditate

One of the many benefits of meditation is that it helps improve and strengthen your resilience to change and uncertainty. It also helps create space in between your thoughts which quiets the chatter and invites more ease within.

Exercise

Movement releases endorphins which are the feel-good hormones that keep you vibrant and positive. Go for walks or follow some of the many online classes available. Just keep moving!

Eat Healthily

Even though it feels like the perfect time to binge on chocolate, chips, and wine, nourishing yourself with healthy foods will help your mind and body strong & healthy. Your immune system will also thank you!

Focus on your mindset

Surround yourself with as much positivity as you can. While it’s okay to watch the news for updates, it can trigger uncertainty and anxiety – try to turn it off from time to time. Listen to music, watch funny movies, play games with your family … do anything that puts a smile on your face.

Shift your perspective

Instead of focusing on all the things you cannot do, focus on what you can do. Space has opened up in your life. Embrace this time to rest and nurture your relationships with your family. Call friends you haven’t connected with in a while. Finally, start those projects you have been holding off on doing. See this as a time to pause and reconnect to what is important to you.

Most importantly remember that THIS TOO SHALL PASS. We will get through this. Together.
